  • Baba Farid College of Engineering and Technology, Bathinda organized a two day National Conference entitled Smart Electronic and Engineering Materials on 5th -6th March 2010. The main objective of the conference was to encourage and provide a platform to the Academicians, Research scholars and Students to come forward and capture the advancements in the field of latest engineering materials which can bring revolution into the various offshoots of engineering. The conference received an overwhelming response from all over the country and many eminent scholars participated in this conference from far off places. The conference was inaugurated by Er. Kanwaljeet Singh, Chief Engineer, Guru Nanak Dev Thermal Plant, Bathinda. The Managing Director of Baba Farid Group of Institutions, S. Gurmeet Singh Dhaliwal welcomed the audience and encouraged faculty and students to conduct such type of conferences in future to make young generation aware about the advancements in the field of engineering.

    Prof. (Dr.) J.S. Dhillon, from SLIET, Longowal, was Key note speaker of the first session. He gave a very illustrative informative session on various basic materials being used in old age, new age and inventions in technology. He spoke about ITAIPU- largest power plant on earth.

    A star attraction of this conference was Prof. (Dr) Dae-Yong JEONG who was special invitee from Myongji University, Korea to attend the conference for both days, whose presence added international flavor to the conference. He presented a well researched technical paper on the topic of “Consideration of mechanical structure & material properties for high efficiency piezoelectric energy harvester”, discussing different energy harvesting ideas. He lauded the quality of research work and coverage of various topics in the research papers presented by the research scholars present during the conference. He was much satisfied with the conference arrangements and participation of students and faculty. He offered scholarships for the intelligent and research oriented students of Baba Farid College of Engineering and Technology. Prof. (Dr) Dae-Yong JEONG told that he will pursue with Korean Government for a Joint Research and Academic collaborations with Baba Farid College of Engineering and Technology.

    The Key Note Speaker of the next session was an eminent educationalist Prof. (Dr.) N. P. Pathak from IIT, Roorkee presented the paper “Technology for low cost & low loss millimeter waves integrated circuits”.
    The book of Abstracts of the conference was also released on this occasion which included some abstracts in the field of engineering from “The Copperbelt University, Zambia ; Max Plank Institute of Microstructure Physics, Halle, Germany; Department of Material Science and Engineering, Myongji University, Korea; Department of Chemical Engineering, University of Waterloo, Canada.

    In the evening of March 5th a gala cultural programme was presented by students which included Dandiya, Giddha, Bhangra and few songs. All guests enjoyed the cultural programme and relished Punjabi hospitality. All the Guests, Research scholars intermingled with Faculty and Students of Baba Farid College of Engineering and Technology. They even exchanged the contacts for future references.

    On March 6th Prof. (Dr). Buta Singh Sidhu, Principal, Yadwindra College of Engineering, Talwandi Sabo was Key note speaker for the morning session. He spoke on the topic “Pulverized Coal and Burner Nozzles”. He emphasized that this conference has received very well researched and experiment based papers which is very positive.

    This National Conference has received 170 papers in all. Out of these, 126 papers were selected by the panel of experts for presentation. The paper presentations by eminent speakers had healthy and fruitful discussions on nearly all the topics in the advancements of Engineering and Technology. Along with the paper presentations all the delegates enjoyed a golden opportunity to visit the nearby historical places of Bathinda. In the end of the day a valedictory session was conducted by S. Gurmeet Singh Dhaliwal, Managing- Director of Baba Farid Group of Institutions, Bathinda. Along with his vote of thanks was given by Prof. (Dr.) Jasbir Singh Hundal for making this national conference an enlightening affair. He appreciated and congratulated the convener Mr. Navneet Dabra and the Co-convener Er. Gayathri Nair and Mr. Neeraj Jindal for their co-ordination and efforts they had made for this conference. Apart from this he also appreciated the team work of all the faculty members and students of Baba Farid College of Engineering and Technology without whom this conference would not be complete in itself.
