Preparation for Congressional Visits Days

Several materials science and engineering students will be attending the larger Science-Engineering-Technology Congressional Visits Days (SETCVD), April 28 – 29, 2010, in Washington, DC.
The objective of SETCVD is to underscore the long-term importance of science, engineering, and technology to the Nation through meetings with congressional decision makers. The CVD, organized by The Science-Engineering-Technology Working Group, is a two-day annual event that brings scientists, engineers, researchers, educators, students, and technology executives to Washington to raise visibility and support for science, engineering, and technology. Uniquely multi-sector and multi-disciplinary, the CVD is coordinated by coalitions of companies, professional societies and educational institutions. It is open to all people who believe that science and technology comprise the cornerstone of our Nation’s future.
FMS and Material Advantage want to make sure the students who are attending CVDs this year are prepared for when they arrive in DC. Visit the student chapter activities page for special resources for CVDs.
Yes. International students living and studying in the U.S. can apply for CVDs. These students will visit Congressional members from the district where the university is located.
Can international graduate students apply for this?
Yes and yes. A student can attend without a faculty advisor and still be eligible for travel funds. We’ve had universities do that in the past. Simply complete the travel grant application form and return as directed on the form. (Keep in mind that the amount of travel grant funds available depends on the amount leftover after registration fees are paid. It indicates this on the travel grant application form, too.)
Can a student attend without his/her advisor? Would it still be possible to apply for a travel grant under these conditions?

I’d like to participate in this meeting if i can be covered the registration fee and the flight. This is going to be an exciting opportunity to me to get some idea of what rationale the science and technology policy is made on and also how the materials science impacts the society.
