The MS&T Plenary Session is on Monday, Oct. 17, 2011, 8:30 a.m. - noon in Ballroom 1 of the Greater Columbus Convention Center, Columbus, Ohio, USA. “Grasping Excellence: Opportunities for Science and Engineering Research, Education and Workforce Development in the United States” will feature Dr. Subra Suresh, Director of the United States National Science Foundation, and will be followed by several prominent speakers including: Dr. Carl E. Wieman, Associate Director for Science, Office of Science and Technology Policy, The White House, Dr. Jeffrey Wadsworth, President and Chief Executive Officer, Battelle Memorial Institute, and Alton D. Material Advantage Student Members were invited to join the Science-Engineering-Technology Congressional Visits Day (SETCVD) on April 6 - 7, 2011, in Washington, DC. Even though the threat of a government shutdown loomed on Capitol Hill, 39 students and faculty from 15 universities attended this year’s CVD event.

Interfaces and Surfaces: Exploring and Experiencing Science
2011 NSF-REU Program
Dates: May 22 - July 29, 2011
The Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) Site at Clemson University will host eleven undergraduate students from May 22 to July 29, 2011. These students will conduct research in interface and surface engineering. The research and program activities part of this REU site are designed to help participants have a positive research and social experience, and to encourage them to pursue graduate studies and research careers. Participants will be mentored by faculty from a diverse set of departments (Materials Science and Engineering, Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering, BioEngineering, Chemistry, and Mechanical Engineering) on projects that focus on exploring the role of interfaces and surfaces on system response.
